Why We Love Asters and Chrysanthemums

ree

As the weather cools and fall bouquets start arriving in the studio, we’re seeing some of our favorite blooms of the year: asters and chrysanthemums. These two flowers are true autumn staples and every time we unpack a bouquet with them tucked inside, we get a little excited. Not only are they beautiful in fresh arrangements, but they also press wonderfully, making them a joy to work with.

Asters: The Delicate Stars of Fall

Asters have a light, airy charm that brings movement and texture to any bouquet. Their soft, layered petals and cheerful colors, from deep purples to blush pinks and crisp whites, make them perfect for adding depth in pressed flower designs. We love asters because they hold their shape and color beautifully once pressed. Their thin petals dry quickly without losing that soft, natural look. Whether they’re part of a wildflower-inspired bouquet or a more classic design, asters always bring a gentle, whimsical touch to a finished frame.

Chrysanthemums: Bold, Textured, and Beautifully Reliable

Chrysanthemums (or “mums,” as most of us call them) are the heart of many fall bouquets. Their full, layered petals and rich seasonal tones, golden yellow, burgundy, copper, and cream, make them a statement flower both fresh and pressed.

Despite their size and texture, chrysanthemums press surprisingly well. With a little care and patience, they flatten into intricate bursts of color that hold up beautifully in designs. They add fullness and warmth to pressed compositions, pairing perfectly with other fall blooms like asters, dahlias or zinnias.

Fall Bouquets Are Arriving

This time of year, our studio fills with the scent and color of fall bouquets arriving from weddings and special events. We see so many asters and chrysanthemums during this season and we’re always thrilled to have them. Their sturdy structure and lasting color make them some of the best blooms to preserve, ensuring that your autumn memories look just as lovely pressed as they did on the day you held them.
